Hixson is a huge area of Chattanooga comprising neighborhoods, great shopping and even lake front homes. The area is so large, it's difficult to pigeon-hole any one type of neighborhood. There are gated subdivisions, grand estates, new construction and older homes. Generally homes in Hixson are less expensive; it is anywhere from a 10 to 45 minute drive to downtown Chattanooga.
 
Lake Chickamauga is one of great natural assets of the area, and Hixson abuts Lake Chickamauga to the north and west. If your looking for a house with a water you may want to explore Hixson. Direct water access is, of course, more expensive, and in many cases rare, but there are dozens of ways to access the lake such as the Lakeshore Marina, Lake Chickamauga Park & Marina and Chester Frost Park. Across the lake there is the Booker T Washington State Park and Harrison Bay State Park - both provide miles of trails, picnic areas and access to the water.
 
North Gate Mall and Rt 153 offer dozens of great restaurants and plenty of shopping. There are a number of wonderful schools in the area including Hixson Elementary, Middle & High Schools, Middle Valley Elementary, Dupont Elementary, Loftis Middle School, Rivermont Elementary School and More!
